Sichuan Energy Nuclear Industry Co., Ltd. Established in Chengdu, Focusing on Advanced Nuclear Microreactor R&D
On September 9, according to Chengdu Sci-Tech Innovation Investment Group, Sichuan Energy Nuclear Industry Co., Ltd. recently completed its establishment in Chengdu with a registered capital of 1 billion yuan. The company was jointly funded and established by Chengdu Sci-Tech Innovation Investment Group through its Chengdu Future Industry Venture Capital Fund, together with Sichuan Energy Development Group, China Nuclear Power Research and Design Institute, Shenzhen Capital Group, and other state-owned capital entities, with its registered address in Chengdu.

According to disclosed information, Sichuan Energy Nuclear Industry Co., Ltd. will mainly focus on advanced nuclear microreactor technology R&D iteration, industrialization implementation, and green energy technology layout, positioned as a resource integration center, R&D innovation center, and investment decision-making center, with priority on advancing the R&D and application of advanced multi-purpose nuclear microreactor technology.
In terms of equity structure, Sichuan Energy Development Group contributed 520 million yuan, holding a 52% stake as the controlling shareholder; Chengdu Future Industry Venture Capital Development Fund contributed 100 million yuan, holding a 10% stake, and the fund is managed and operated by Chengdu Sci-Tech Innovation Investment Group. In addition, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Venture Capital Guidance Fund, Shenzhen Innovation Capital Investment Co., Ltd., and Sichuan Yibin Push Group also participated in the investment. On the technology side, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Nuclear Power Research and Design Institute contributed equity participation.
The core business of Sichuan Energy Nuclear Industry Co., Ltd. will revolve around the R&D and industrialization of uranium-zirconium hydride fuel with lead-bismuth cooled microreactors, while also laying out green energy technology R&D and applications including organic Rankine cycle thermoelectric conversion technology, heat pumps, carbon capture and deep utilization, and extending to industrial investment in areas such as reactor-produced isotopes, nuclear medicine, nuclear medical equipment, and nuclear medical environmental protection.
Microreactors typically refer to small nuclear reactors with an electric power output not exceeding 10 megawatts, featuring small modular design, high inherent safety, and diverse application scenarios, and can serve distributed energy supply, industrial heating, offshore platforms, special equipment, nuclear medicine, and other fields. According to the plan, the new company will rely on the technical foundation of research platforms such as China Nuclear Power Research and Design Institute, link with industrial chain resources including Sichuan's nuclear power equipment manufacturing and nuclear medical applications, and promote the transformation of related technologies from R&D verification to engineering and large-scale application.
Sichuan is an important nuclear industry research and industrialization base in China, with an industrial foundation spanning basic research, equipment manufacturing, and application scenarios. Data shows that Chengdu's advanced energy industry has reached a certain scale. In 2025, 515 advanced energy industrial units above designated size in Chengdu achieved revenue of 188.418 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.2%.
In terms of future industry layout, Sichuan Province's "Implementation Plan for Developing and Expanding Emerging Industries and Accelerating the Cultivation of Future Industries (2025—2027)" has listed controllable nuclear fusion as a key cultivation direction, proposing to promote breakthroughs in magnetic confinement and inertial confinement nuclear fusion technologies and facilitate the transformation of cutting-edge technological achievements. Chengdu is also advancing the construction of fusion energy-related research platforms, and the second phase of the Tianfu Fusion Technology R&D Center project has recently commenced construction in Chengdu.
