Final Design Review Completed for ITER Neutron Flux Monitor System #7
Recently, the Final Design Review (FDR-2) for the ITER Neutron Flux Monitor System #7 (NFM#7), led by the Southwestern Institute of Physics (SWIP), was successfully held, and the system design scheme was fully affirmed by the review expert panel. The successful passage of this review marks an important milestone achievement in China's development of key ITER diagnostic systems, laying a solid foundation for subsequent system manufacturing and overall delivery.
At the review meeting, the project team comprehensively reported the overall and component-level design schemes of the NFM#7 system, and responded item by item to the inquiries raised by ITER international review experts. The expert panel unanimously agreed that the final design scheme of the NFM#7 system is mature and complete, with clear interfaces and high safety and reliability, and highly praised the cross-institutional collaborative design capability of the Chinese team.
The Neutron Flux Monitor (NFM) system is one of the core systems of ITER neutron diagnostics, responsible for measuring ITER neutron yield, fusion power, and other nuclear safety-critical parameters. Under the guidance of the China International Nuclear Fusion Energy Program Execution Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the SWIP team, in collaboration with domestic and international institutions, has overcome multiple key core technologies, including ultra-wide-range neutron detection with high time resolution and nuclear safety-grade electrical feedthrough design, and successfully completed the mechanical design and engineering simulation analysis of detector assemblies and shielding cabinet assemblies under extreme operating conditions such as high temperature and high neutron flux. All performance indicators of the system exceed ITER design specifications and requirements.
