U.S. Marathon Fusion Demonstrates Hydrogen and Lithium Isotope Enrichment Technology
U.S.-based Marathon Fusion announced on August 27 that it has successfully demonstrated hydrogen and lithium isotope enrichment technology using its proprietary plasma centrifuge. The company stated that this advancement addresses the fuel cycle needs of fusion energy and related isotope supply requirements. In the deuterium-tritium fusion pathway, hydrogen isotope processing is critical to the continuous operation of fusion devices, while lithium isotope enrichment is closely tied to tritium production. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released its "Fusion Science and Technology Roadmap" in June of this year, which identifies tritium processing as one of the core challenges, noting that related progress is essential for achieving sustained deuterium-tritium fusion operation and validating fusion as a large-scale energy form...

Xingtu Helium Energy's First Satellite "Xingtu-1" Passes Feasibility Review
On August 23, 2026, Beijing Xingtu Helium Energy Space Technology Co., Ltd. organized a feasibility review meeting for the Xingtu-1 lunar probe. Experts from aerospace research institutes, renowned universities, and leading commercial space companies formed a review expert panel to evaluate the project plan. At the meeting, the Xingtu Helium Energy model development team presented the "Xingtu-1 Lunar Probe Feasibility Plan Report," covering the probe's technical scheme, project progress, and subsequent implementation arrangements. The review expert panel affirmed the technical scheme, project progress, and commercial value of Xingtu-1, while offering optimization suggestions for key challenges in engineering implementation. Xingtu Helium Energy...

US Inertia Fusion Fuel Preparation Time Significantly Reduced
US fusion startup Inertia Enterprises said it has made progress in inertial fusion energy fuel preparation in collaboration with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), reducing the time required for the critical step of forming a cryogenic deuterium-tritium fuel layer from potentially several days in the past to tens of minutes. The company said this achievement completes a key task in the first phase of its commercial fusion power plant development goals. The fundamental approach of inertial fusion energy involves using high-energy lasers to compress and heat small targets containing deuterium-tritium fuel, bringing the fuel to ignition conditions and releasing energy. The National Ignition Facility (NIF) has already...

Korea Fusion Energy Institute Launches Design and Manufacturing of ITER Tritium Storage and Supply Vessels
The Korea Fusion Energy Institute (KFE) announced on August 12 at its headquarters in Daejeon that it has signed a contract with a consortium comprising Iljin Power and Aizen Core to undertake the design and manufacturing of the tritium storage and supply vessels for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER). ITER is currently the world's largest fusion experimental device, being jointly constructed by seven parties—Korea, the United States, the European Union, Japan, China, Russia, and India—in Cadarache, southern France. Under the procurement agreement signed between KFE and the ITER Organization in March 2025, Korea...

Unanimously Approved! China's First ISO International Standard in the Field of Fusion Fueling Officially Released
On August 10 local time, the international standard ISO 19991:2026, "Fusion Technology — Experimental Magnetic Confinement Fusion Facilities — Ultrasonic Molecular Beam Injection Fueling Technology for Fusion Devices," formulated by China, was officially released. Earlier, during the final voting process, all 12 countries, including France, Germany, and Russia, cast affirmative votes. This is the first ISO international standard in the field of fusion fueling and the second ISO international standard in the fusion field led by the Southwestern Institute of Physics (SWIP) under the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC). Ultrasonic molecular beam injection fueling technology is a key fuel supply technology for controlled nuclear fusion devices. This technology, an advanced fusion fueling technology originally developed by China, forms high-speed, directional molecular beams through adiabatic gas expansion. It features high speed, strong directionality, relatively high fueling efficiency, and low particle recycling, significantly enhancing the fuel control capability of fusion devices. It has been applied to more than ten magnetic confinement fusion experimental devices both domestically and internationally.

German team achieves first separation of tritium-containing hydrogen isotope mixtures using silver-exchanged zeolites
A team at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) and partners recently demonstrated a new method for separating hydrogen isotopes using silver-containing zeolites, successfully separating hydrogen isotope mixtures containing radioactive tritium through a porous solid material for the first time. The research findings were published in Nature Communications. Future fusion power plants will require not only high-temperature plasma and strong magnetic fields during operation, but also a stable fuel cycle system for recovering, separating, and reusing deuterium and tritium. Inside a fusion reactor, deuterium and tritium participate in reactions and release energy, but the fuel is not completely consumed, and the residual gas may also contain ordinary hydrogen (protium), forming a mixture of protium, deuterium, and tritium...

Europe Completes Manufacturing of JT-60SA Pellet Centrifuge Accelerator
The European Fusion Energy Organization (F4E) recently announced progress on key components of a new pellet injection system for the upgrade of the JT-60SA device. The centrifuge accelerator, manufactured by Sener, has been completed and delivered to the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP). It will subsequently be integrated with other components of the pellet injection system and undergo testing. The operation of fusion devices relies on the continuous supply of hydrogen isotope fuel. In devices such as JT-60SA and the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), the pellet injection system is used to fuel the plasma and assist in controlling plasma instabilities. The system typically consists of three parts: preparation...
