Google Plans to Sign Over $1 Billion Long-Term Power Purchase Agreement with Constellation Energy: Locking in Existing Nuclear Baseload to Support AI Computing Expansion
Recently, Google's parent company Alphabet (Alphabet Inc., Nasdaq: GOOGL) is nearing a multi-year nuclear power purchase agreement with Constellation Energy. Google will pay $1 billion or more, and the agreement could be announced as early as this week. It is understood that this potential agreement comes as the massive electricity demand driven by the artificial intelligence boom is reigniting interest in nuclear energy, which can provide emissions-free power around the clock. Recently reached agreements have mainly focused on existing nuclear facilities, because permitting and construction of new reactors can take more than a decade, while next-generation fission technology still requires years before large-scale deployment. This news follows Amazon...

Southern Company Partners with Google to Upgrade Nuclear Plants to Meet Power Demand
Recently, Georgia Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, reached an agreement with Google aimed at supporting upgrades to its two nuclear power plants, expected to add approximately 96 megawatts of power supply capacity. This collaboration comes amid surging power demand from data centers and other large users, driving the expansion of existing nuclear plants in pursuit of an around-the-clock, carbon-free power source. The agreement, which still requires approval from the Georgia Public Service Commission, provides funding for power upgrades to Georgia Power's share of the Vogtle and Hatch nuclear plants. Google's subscription will bring customers approximately $900 million in...

Iowa Research Promotes Nuclear Energy Industry Development
The Iowa Nuclear Energy Task Force released a report stating that, leveraging experience in deploying new energy technologies, a strong manufacturing base, workforce conditions, and the Duane Arnold nuclear power plant restart plan, Iowa is well-positioned to play a greater role in the growing nuclear energy industry. NextEra Energy has agreed to restart the Duane Arnold nuclear power plant, primarily to supply power to Google. Image courtesy of NextEra Energy. The task force was established by Iowa's governor in January of this year with the mission of assessing opportunities for advancing nuclear energy technology and infrastructure in the state. The report recommends that Iowa conduct a statewide nuclear energy feasibility study, identify areas suitable for new nuclear project development, and establish a one-stop coordination window to facilitate nuclear project advancement.
